‘Argh!’ Kida exclaimed for the tenth time within thirty minutes. ‘I can’t stand it anymore!’ With a dramatic sigh, he fell back on the bed with a thump.

‘Masaomi, we have a test tomorrow. Didn’t you say that you haven’t revised at all?’ Mikado muttered in annoyance, his eyes not once leaving the page he is studying.

‘But, Mikadooo…’ Kida whined, ‘Look at the beautiful sunshine outside! It’s welcoming us with open arms!’ He spreaded out his arms wide to illustrate. ‘It’s such a waste to be trapped in this small, dim room to study when we could go out and play!’

Mikado rolled his eyes at his friend’s over-dramatic behavior. He was starting to regret his offer to Kida to study together in his apartment. He knew that he should have rejected Kida firmly, no matter how Kida begged him and said something along the lines of ‘Mikado is so cruel that he let his friend fail in front of him’ or ‘Mikado refuses to land a helping hand to his desperate friend’. True, the test was tomorrow and Kida did not understand half of the contents, but he should have revised ahead and not wait for the last moment, right?

Mikado was very willing to answer his friend’s queries and explain what he did not understand, of course. It was supposed to be that way and they were supposed to have an enjoyable study session, but the problem was that the questions Kida asked had little to do with their test tomorrow. Within their thirty minutes of studying, Kida had already interrupted him for more than ten times, each time asking his opinions on useless topics such as teachers, lessons, clubs and girls.

Mikado leaned back on the back of the chair and sighed. Here he was sitting at his desk, studying seriously, while Kida was spread out comfortably on his bed, supporting his upper body with his arms and reading from a book laid in front. What bothered Mikado most was his humming. His humming that was loud enough for him to hear and noisy enough to distract him.

Mikado tried not to furrow his brows too much. ‘Masaomi, could you please stop humming? It’s distracting.’ He tried to keep his voice as steady as possible without sounding too annoyed.

Kida frowned. ‘Huh? You don’t like my humming? I guess that ‘cause Mikado’s not too fond of music, huh?’ He placed the back of his hand on his forehead and closed his eyes in bliss. ‘How saddening it is to know that there are people on the world that doesn’t understand the beauty of music!’

‘Masaomi… I don’t think the pop song tune you’re humming is any kind of music,’ Mikado muttered under his breath.

Kida ignored him. His eyes shone and his smile widened as he thought of something. ‘Hey! Come to think of it, what kind of music does Sonohara like? Why, since she is so ero-kawaii, she must like classical music! It’s so romantic and elegant, just like her! Don’t you agree with me?’

‘Masaomi… I don’t think you should guess others’ interest in music just based on their personality…’

Kida spreaded out his arms. ‘Welcome to the world of romance, Mikado! You’re never going to get a girl if you don’t try to guess what she likes!’

Mikado turned back to his book. Better wait for Kida to lose interest and stop talking than argue with him. This could save him some previous minutes and from a potential hour-long argument.

He took out a piece of chocolate from a bag buried beneath the piles of books on is desk. After removing the wrapping, he popped it into his mouth and resumed his studying.

Well, he should be resuming his studying, except that a loud exclaim from Kida diverted his attention.

‘Mikado! You ate the last chocolate! I heard that the brand’s chocolate is delicious and I’ve always wanted to taste it!’

‘Masaomi, I’ve ate it already! If you want to eat it so much, I’ll buy you some next time,’ said Mikado disapprovingly.

The expression on Kida’s face suddenly changed from a look of disappointment to a look of amusement. Mikado had seen that mischievous grin numerous times, and he knew that there was no doubt that he was up to no good. An idea had come to his mind, yet Mikado had no idea what he was thinking.

Mikado watched as Kida lifted himself off the bed and walked towards him. ‘Mikado. You haven’t swallowed the chocolate, have you?’ There was a predatory look in his eyes.

‘No… Why?’ Mikado replied slowly and carefully as he tried to make out the reason behind his friend’s grin.

Kida’s smile widened and he seemed pleased with Mikado’s answer. He moved a few steps forward, and suddenly his face was directly in front, inches away from his own.

Mikado leaned back instinctively. ‘Masaomi?’

At such proximity, Mikado had a good chance to look at Kida’s eyes. They were not yellow as he originally thought, but upon close inspection, he discovered that they were actually golden yellow. A bright yet warm tone of yellow, just like the sun; just like the active and cheerful Masaomi.

The golden yellow orbs came closer and closer, until…

Mikado’s eyes widened in shock as he felt a pair of soft lips pressed upon his own. His mouth parted in surprise, and Kida made use of this opportunity to slide his tongue into Mikado’s mouth. With a swirl of his tongue, he located the position of the chocolate. When there were no protests from Mikado, his tongue dived further in, and licked the chocolate thoroughly in a circular motion.

When they finally pulled apart, Mikado’s cheeks were flushed a cute shade of pink.

Kida looked at him with bright eyes and grinned. ‘The chocolate is really delicious, but Mikado tastes even better.’

Mikado felt his cheeks heat up. He was sure that they must be a brilliant shade of red now, just like that of a tomato.

Mikado completely regretted his decision to invite Kida to his apartment. That kiss just now had ruined all his hopes of studying for the day. As he tried to memorize the text from his book, the scene kept replaying in his mind, making it impossible for him to focus. Kida’s presence on the bed behind him didn’t help, and instead reminded him more of the kiss just now.

Mikado closed his eyes and sighed.
